Recently, I watched a programme on BBC Two named "Are our kids tough enough? Chinese school". The show consists of three episodes that describe a unique experiment about five Chinese teachers from China take over the education of fifty students in a Hampshire school to see whether the Chinese education system can improve the performance of the students. The experiment ran for four weeks and the students in Chinese school took exams and compared to the normal students studied in usual conditions at the school and taught by their teachers.
Chinese school has tough schedule for students, which requires the students to come early and stay late after the class. That's the way of Chinese students at school to practice more and learn more to improve themselves. Overall, the students who volunteered for Chinese school stayed at school much longer than the normal students. However, the five teachers from China had a lot of troubles to make the experiment on the track since there are many students that cannot concentrate themselves on the experiment. This might be due to the requirement of studying for a long time or the way of teaching is boring. Usually, Chinese teachers will talk all the time during the class and let the students to memorize all of the contents within a class. In contrast, the students in England have less number of students, classified into different groups based on their levels and have more discussions for developing their imaginations and thoughts. Nevertheless, the five Chinese teachers tried their best to deliver their knowledge and Chinese-style teaching for those students.
After all, the students from Chinese school for the experiment out performed the students with ordinary routines. However, this doesn't indicate that the Chinese education system is better than England education system. Instead, both education systems showed the pros and cons and let people think about how to combine the strong points to provide better education for our kids and survive in the competitive world ever before.
